More injury woe for Radebe

Leeds United AFC defender Lucas Radebe has been ruled out for at least another three months.

Leeds United AFC defender Lucas Radebe has been ruled out for at least another three months after suffering another injury blow.

Ankle ligament damage
The South African was carried off after 70 minutes of the 2-0 reserve defeat by Sunderland AFC on Wednesday night. Radebe, who was battling his way back to fitness for the UEFA Cup contenders after two serious knee injuries, has suffered ankle ligament damage.

World Cup in danger
This latest injury blow has seemingly wrecked Radebe's hopes of playing for South Africa in next summer's 2002 FIFA World Cup finals as he was looking to force his way back into club manager David O'Leary's first-team plans. There is the possibility the 32-year-old may not even be in contention for the senior side again this season because of the long recovery time associated with the injury.

’A major blow’
Radebe, who only recently said "one more setback would be a disaster", has vowed to battle back again. "This is a major blow and I am very disappointed, but I am determined to fight my way back into the first team," he said. "The only bright spot is that I have had no problems with my knees in the games I have played, although this is a serious injury. But as I say, I am determined to come back, although I realise I face a lot of hard work ahead of me."
