Right thigh
Vieri's absence against Empoli had appeared from the outside as a consequence of his refusal to start the match on the bench. However, the Italian international underwent tests yesterday which confirmed the extent of the injury to his right thigh, sustained in training on Saturday.
Transfer rumours
Vieri's future at the San Siro has been a subject of much conjecture, with rumours circulating that he would be sold during the winter break. The 30-year-old upset club officials last week after refusing to travel to a Coppa Italia match against Udinese Calcio.
Fit for Sochaux
The injury means he will miss the Serie A matches against Modena FC, AC Siena and UC Sampdoria but he will be fit by 26 February when Inter play the first leg of their UEFA Cup third-round tie against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
