Ooijer goes under the knife

PSV Eindhoven defender André Ooijer has undergone surgery on a knee injury that has troubled him since November.

Ooijer had pieces of loose cartilage removed from his knee in the operation at the Amsterdam Medical Centre this morning. He had suffered problems with the knee up to the winter break, despite being rested following PSV's UEFA Champions League defeat at RC Deportivo La Coruña, which ended their interest in the competition.

Return date not set
A date for the Dutch international's return has not been set. He is expected to be missing for several weeks and it is not known whether he will be back in time for PSV's UEFA Cup third-round tie against AC Perugia, the first leg of which is to be played on 26 February.
