Van Nistelrooy misses PSV return

A thigh injury means Hamburger SV striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will not be returning to face his former club PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, while Dennis Aogo is also sidelined.

Hamburger SV will have to do without Ruud van Nistelrooy for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie with his former club PSV Eindhoven on Thursday after the striker was ruled out with a thigh injury.

The 33-year-old, signed in January from Real Madrid CF, missed Saturday's Bundesliga encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt due to stiffness in his right thigh muscle, and although an MRI scan on Monday did not show any serious problem, Hamburg have decided not to risk Van Nistelrooy as they travel to PSV 1-0 up from the first leg. Assistant coach Eddy Sözer said: "Ruud is still in rehab after his injuries. Sidelining him on Thursday is merely a precaution."

Hamburg could also be missing defender Dennis Aogo because of a back problem that was treated on Monday in Munich by Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt. However, Dutch winger Eljero Elia has recovered from an ankle injury and will be able to play in his homeland.
