Manchester City FC manager Roberto Mancini will have Patrick Vieira at his disposal for next season's UEFA Europa League campaign after the midfielder extended his six-month stay at the club by a further season.

Vieira, who played under Mancini at FC Internazionale Milano, became the Italian's first signing at City when he penned a short-term deal during the January transfer window. The former Arsenal FC midfielder and France captain, 33, made 13 league appearances for Blues, his only goal coming in a 6-1 victory against Burnley FC on 3 April. City will go into next term's UEFA Europa League play-offs after finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Mancini has already made one summer acquisition after the club last week announced the arrival of German international defender Jerome Boateng on a five-year deal from Hamburger SV.
