Fenerbahçe SK have confirmed the signing of Mamadou Niang from Olympique de Marseille for a fee reported to be in the region of €8m.

The 30-year-old striker leaves for Istanbul after five seasons with OM having played an important role in helping the southern club reclaim the Ligue 1 title last term. The Senegalese international scored 18 goals in 32 league appearances in 2009/10 and overall hit an impressive 72 in 154 French top-flight games for the Stade Vélodrome outfit.

Niang, Ligue 1's top scorer last season, signed off on a sad note, playing in his side's 3-2 loss at Valenciennes FC on Saturday. Fenerbahçe are away to PAOK FC in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off next Thursday, while OM enter the UEFA Champions League at the group stage.
