Moldovan champions FC Sheriff have signed Latvia Under-21 striker Edgars Gauračs from FC Rapid Bucureşti as they prepare to return to the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The 22-year-old has signed a one-year contract with Sheriff, who lost 4-0 on aggregate to FC Basel 1893 in the UEFA Champions League play-offs this week. "Obviously, I am very happy," he told UEFA.com. "Sheriff are a very strong and ambitious team. They will play a lot of UEFA Europa League matches this season, and that's a big motivation for me as well. I was lucky to score for FK Ventspils in a UEFA Europa League game last year. Hopefully I will do the same at Sheriff." Former SK Blāzma Rezekne and Ventspils player Gauračs has spent most of his career abroad, having represented Italian side Ascoli Calcio 1898 before his move to Romania.
