Portugal midfielder Raul Meireles has signed a four-year contract with UEFA Europa League contenders Liverpool FC.
Meireles spent the last six seasons at FC Porto but has now completed a move to the Premier League for a fee of €14m. The 27-year-old scored 15 goals in 137 league games for the Dragons and has 38 international caps to his name, including four appearances at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
"Liverpool are a historic club and I am happy with the move," said Meireles. "Roy Hodgson was key because he worked so hard to get me. I hope the fans will one day remember me for my success at Liverpool. It has been a long time coming, but finally I have achieved my dream of playing in England." Liverpool will face FC Steaua Bucureşti, SSC Napoli and FC Utrecht in UEFA Europa League Group K following Friday's draw.
