Getafe's Mario faces six months out

Getafe CF have lost the services of central defender Mario for the next six months after he underwent surgery on the torn Achilles tendon he suffered against BSC Young Boys.

Getafe CF defender Mario could be out for six months after undergoing surgery on the torn Achilles tendon he suffered in last Thursday's UEFA Europa League loss at BSC Young Boys.

The 28-year-old centre-back left the Stade de Suisse in tears after falling awkwardly in the closing stages of the Spanish side's 2-0 Group H defeat. Getafe's initial fears were confirmed and Mario had an operation on Saturday. Coach Míchel is consigned to being without him until April and could ask Cata Díaz to fill the void in the UEFA Europa League.
