Liverpool FC centre-back Jamie Carragher is expected to be out of action for three months after dislocating his left shoulder during his side's 2-1 Premier League loss at Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday.
Carragher will undergo surgery this week, ruling him out for the rest of Liverpool's UEFA Europa League group stage campaign. He could still be sidelined when the competition resumes in February should Liverpool progress to the knockout phase.
"I'll be having surgery at the end of the week," the 32-year-old confirmed. "
The average is about 12 weeks. I'd like to come back before that but I've got to make sure it's right. It will probably be late February or early March when I'm looking to come back."
Liverpool top Group K by three points from FC Steaua Bucureşti but are also without captain Steven Gerrard – suffering from a hamstring injury – for Thursday's meeting with the Romanian club in Bucharest. Roy Hodgson's team dropped to tenth in the Premier League after losing to Tottenham.
