Beşiktaş JK have signed Portuguese international Simão from UEFA Europa League holders Club Atlético de Madrid on a two-and-a-half year contract.
The versatile midfielder, 31, moves to Turkey in a deal worth €900,000 and joins compatriot Ricardo Quaresma at the Black Eagles. The switch ends a three-and-a-half year spell at Atlético for the former Sporting Clube de Portugal, FC Barcelona and SL Benfica man, who helped the side claim the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup. He has registered six times in 24 appearances this term.
Simão, scorer of 22 goals in 85 appearances for Portugal, links up with a Beşiktaş side lying fifth in the Turkish Super League at the winter break, 14 points adrift of leaders Trabzonspor AŞ. They are also through to the UEFA Europa League round of 32, where FC Dynamo Kyiv await on 17 and 24 February.
