FC Twente have signed United States defender Oguchi Onyewu on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season.

The towering centre-back has made just one appearance for the Rossoneri in 18 injury-ravaged months since arriving at San Siro from R. Standard de Liège in 2009. He moves to Twente hoping to reignite his career and needs no introduction to new coach Michel Preud'homme, the man who guided a Standard team featuring Onyewu to their first Belgian title in 25 years.

Capped 51 times by the United States, Onyewu has played in Europe since joining French side FC Metz in 2002. After a spell on loan at RAA Louviéroise he joined Standard in 2004, where he remained for five seasons save for a six-month period on loan at Newcastle United FC in 2006/07.

Second in the Dutch Eredivisie, Twente face FC Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, travelling to Russia for the first leg on 17 February with the return a week later.
