PSV Eindhoven left-back Erik Pieters has extended his contract by two years until summer 2014.
The new deal rewards the 22-year-old Pieters for an impressive campaign in which he has played 39 matches already, and he was delighted to sign it. "For me it was important that the feeling was good and that the contract on offer showed appreciation for me," the defender said.
The former FC Utrecht player is the Dutch Eredivisie leaders' only ever-present this season, including taking part in all ten games of PSV's run to a UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie against Rangers FC on 10 and 17 March. "I have played every game this season and that says something about my development. First, however, I want to become champion with PSV, that is the most important goal now."
A UEFA European Under-21 Championship winner with the Netherlands in 2007, Pieters joined PSV from Utrecht the following summer and has since racked up 69 top-flight appearances for the club. He has also been capped six times by his country at senior level.
