Goalkeeper David Marshall, one of the heroes of Celtic FC's UEFA Cup fourth-round victory against FC Barcelona, has signed a new four-year contract with the Scottish side.
Forced into action
The 19-year-old was forced into action when first-choice Rab Douglas was sent off at half-time of the first leg against Barcelona. After an excellent second-half display in his side's 1-0 win, he subsequently impressed in the goalless return at the Nou Camp last night that saw Martin O'Neill's side clinch a quarter-final place against Villarreal CF.
Standing ovation
O'Neill revealed that after last night's game Marshall received a standing ovation from his team-mates. Striker Henrik Larsson said of the youngster: "I think he is too young to have any nerves - he doesn't realise how big it was. He was tremendous from the first minute of the game onwards."
