SL Benfica's veteran forward, Nuno Gomes, is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery on Monday.
The 34-year-old damaged the meniscus in his left knee and his recovery time is an estimated six weeks, making it likely he has kicked his last ball in 2010/11. Although Nuno Gomes will miss Benfica's UEFA Europa League quarter-final against PSV Eindhoven, he has not featured in the competition this term. He has come on as a substitute in six league and cup games, scoring five goals.
The experienced striker is three appearances short of the 400-mark for Benfica but is now likely to have to wait until next season to achieve that milestone.
