Article body
Temporary arrangement
Villarreal have been without a coach since the resignation of Benito Floro at the end of February. Floro's assistant Francisco García has led the team on a temporary basis, but Pellegrini will replace him as soon as the season finishes in May.
Extensive career
The 50-year-old Pellegrini has extensive coaching experience in South America and is keen to work in Europe. Most recently, he was in charge of Argentinian side CA River Plate, whom he left in December after 18 months at the helm.
UEFA Cup success
Since Floro's departure, Villarreal have eliminated Galatasaray SK and AS Roma from the UEFA Cup and face Scottish club Celtic FC in the quarter-finals, with the first leg at Parkhead on Thursday night.
