ADO Den Haag have appointed Maurice Steijn as their new coach following the departure of John van den Brom for Eredivisie rivals Vitesse.

The 37-year-old takes the hot seat having served as assistant to Van den Brom last season. He was a midfielder at Den Haag between 1993 and 1999 before ending his career with NAC Breda in 2001. Steijn returned to the club as a youth coach and briefly coached the senior team at the end of the 2009/10 campaign as caretaker in the wake of Raymond Atteveld's dismissal.

Den Haag finished seventh in the Dutch top flight last term and qualified for the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round after winning the play-off final against FC Groningen – prevailing on penalties after a remarkable 6-6 aggregate draw. It will be their first European involvement since reaching the second round of the 1987/88 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
