New Tottenham Hotspur FC head coach André Villas-Boas has made Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson his first signing.

The 22-year-old joins from Bundesliga outfit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim but is familiar with life in the Premier League having spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea City AFC. Sigurdsson scored seven goals in 18 appearances for the Welsh side, including a strike from the edge of the penalty area in the defeat against Spurs at White Hart Lane in April.

The Icelandic international began his career at English side Reading FC before moving to Germany in August 2010. Sigurdsson will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training on Monday and the north London club will learn their UEFA Europa League group stage opponents in the draw on 27 August in Monaco.
