Doumbia loss leaves CSKA short of options

PFC CSKA Moskva have been left without a recognised centre-forward after Seydou Doumbia was ruled out for two months with a back problem, joining Tomáš Necid on the sidelines.

Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia has been laid off for at least two months with a back injury, leaving PFC CSKA Moskva without a recognised centre-forward.

The 24-year-old is undergoing treatment in Geneva after suffering a herniated or slipped disc during CSKA's 3-1 defeat by FC Amkar Perm at the end of July. Doumbia, the Russian Premier-Liga's 28-goal top scorer last season, is expected to be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks, ruling him out of the UEFA Europa League play-off tie against AIK Solna that begins next week.

His absence leaves CSKA with real attacking problems, with Czech international Tomáš Necid still some way off recovery after damaging knee ligaments in June. Ahmed Musa, a 19-year-old more accustomed to playing on the right flank, has so far deputised in a more central role.
