FC Luzern will have a new coach on the bench for their UEFA Europa League play-off opener at home to KRC Genk on Thursday after replacing Murat Yakin with Ryszard Komornicki.
Yakin, the former Switzerland midfielder, paid the price for collecting just three points from the first six Super League games of the season. On Sunday, Luzern suffered their third defeat in four matches, losing 2-0 to Grasshopper-Club.
The 37-year-old took over at the Swissporarena since last summer and in his only campaign in charge guided Luzern to the Swiss Cup final, where they lost on penalties to FC Basel 1893, and to a runners-up finish in the league. Komornicki, who was in charge of Luzern for a brief period in 2001, has signed a contract until the end of the season.
