Europa League lineup and seedings set

The lineup and seedings are complete for today's UEFA Europa League group stage draw, taking place at 13.00CET at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco with eight past winners involved.

The lineup for the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League group stage is complete and will feature eight sides that have lifted the trophy before, holders Club Atlético de Madrid included, whether in its current format or as the UEFA Cup.

Atlético were among the seven automatic entrants who, together with the UEFA Champions League play-off losers, were joined last night by 31 UEFA Europa League play-off victors. The Spanish team will also be among 12 top seeds in Friday's draw at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum from 13.00CET.

The 48 entrants have been split into four seeding pots based on their club coefficients, with each of the 12 groups to contain one team from each tier. No club can meet a side from their own association.

No fewer than six of the teams in Pot 1 already have their names inscribed on the trophy, rebranded from the UEFA Cup in 2009. Bayer 04 Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven have won one apiece, Atlético and Tottenham Hotspur FC two, while Liverpool FC and FC Internazionale Milano are among only three sides – along with Juventus – to have triumphed on three occasions.

The quality runs deep. Pot 2 contains another former winner SSC Napoli, alongside an FC Basel 1893 team that overcame Manchester United FC en route to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 last season. Pot 3, meanwhile, has two-time UEFA Cup holders VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. Like the other 47 clubs in the draw, the ultimate aim for the German side is to make the 200km journey to the Amsterdam ArenA for next May's final.

The full group stage fixture list will be available 60 minutes after the draw ceremony.
