PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen has been laid off for around six months after tearing a hamstring in training with Sweden.

The 26-year-old was injured at his national team training camp on Thursday and returned to Eindhoven for treatment. PSV's medical staff confirmed a torn hamstring and Toivonen is to undergo surgery from which he is expected to take half a year to recover. That would rule him out of the remainder of the UEFA Europa League group stage and the majority of the Dutch Eredivisie campaign.

Second in their domestic league, PSV lie level with SSC Napoli in Group F, three points behind FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, and next welcome Toivonen's compatriots AIK Solna on 25 October.
