Former Real Madrid assistant José Peseiro has been appointed as the new coach of Sporting Clube de Portugal.
José Peseiro has been appointed as the new coach of Sporting Clube de Portugal, the club reported on Friday.
Despite guiding the side to a third-place finish in the Portuguese Superleague behind FC Porto and SL Benfica, missing out on the UEFA Champions League meant Fernando Santos lost his job on Tuesday and the club have wasted little time in finding a replacement.
Peseiro, a former assistant to sacked Real Madrid CF coach Carlos Queiroz, has signed a two-year contract with the Estádio José Alvalade club. Sporting lost three of their last four league games to miss out on Champions League football, although Peseiro's new charges will take part in the UEFA Cup next season.
