More than half a century on from SL Benfica's last European trophy, Lima, making his second UEFA Europa League final appearance, is determined to end the club's long wait.

A member of the SC Braga side defeated in the UEFA Europa League final two years ago, SL Benfica striker Lima has his fingers crossed that his second bite at the cherry will be more successful.

Lima, 29, has made six appearances in Benfica's run to this season's showpiece in Amsterdam on 15 May. Next up for the Eagles are Chelsea FC, who won the UEFA Champions League less than 12 months ago. Benfica, by contrast, have not lifted a European trophy for more than half a century, when they claimed their second successive European Cup.

"Not only for the fans, who have waited so long for a European competition title, but I also believe it would be very important for the players to leave their names in a European competition," said Lima. "It's very important for them as well. But like I mentioned before, the fans ... what they can expect is a group and a team who are very much focused on making that possible – but they know that it won't be easy for us."
