Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Chelsea FC to bring former FC Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu back to the Liga on a season-long loan.

The Mestalla club can count on the Spanish Under-21 international in the forthcoming campaign, though reportedly with no option to buy a player who rose through the ranks at Barcelona before signing for Chelsea in deal costing approximately €5m in 2011. He had played just once for the Barça first team in Spain's top flight.

As well as making 22 Premier League appearances during the past two seasons – the last of which was curtailed by a serious knee injury sustained in December – the 21-year-old featured three times during the west Londoners' successful 2011/12 UEFA Champions League run. He joins recently appointed coach Miroslav Djukić and fellow recruits Javi Fuego and Míchel at Valencia. The east-coast outfit begin their 2013/14 UEFA Europa League campaign from the group stage.
