FC Metalurh Donetsk have announced the appointment of Sergey Tashuev as first-team coach on the eve of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round decider against FK Kukësi of Albania.

Tashuev was presented to his new charges on Wednesday afternoon and garnered praise from the general director of the Ukrainian outfit, Evgen Hajduk, who described him as "a coach of huge experience". The 54-year-old's achievements include guiding FC Krasnodar to the Russian Premier League in 2010.

Metalurh dismissed Yuriy Maksymov two days ago after his side followed up last week's 2-0 first-leg defeat at Kukës with a 1-0 league loss away to FC Chornomorets Odesa on Sunday. The 44-year-old had been in charge of Metalurh for a year, leading them to a fifth-place finish in the 2012/13 Ukrainian Premier League.

Volodymyr Pyatenko, who was placed in temporary command in the wake of Maksymov's exit, will continue to oversee Metalurh's preparations for Thursday's return match at home to Kukës.
