Valencia's Ricardo Costa out of Ludogorets tie

Valencia CF must plan for their UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad without central defender Ricardo Costa, who has been sidelined with shin and ankle swelling.

The Portuguese international – scorer of four goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Liga side this season – limped out of his team's scoreless round of 32 return match at home to FC Dynamo Kyiv on 27 February. Following extensive tests on the 32-year-old, club medics diagnosed an edema in his lower right leg, ruling the centre-back out for up to five weeks.

Juan Antonio Pizzi's squad travel to Bulgarian champions Ludogorets – conquerors of PSV Eindhoven and SS Lazio in this UEFA Europa League campaign – next Thursday, with the decider taking place at the Mestalla on 20 March.
