FC Basel 1893 will be without captain Marco Streller for their UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Valencia CF after the striker suffered a groin injury on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old tore muscle fibres during the 1-0 Swiss Cup win against FC Luzern and is slated to be out of action for several weeks, meaning he will be unable to lead Murat Yakin's side in either leg of the tie against Valencia. Streller has scored three goals in two appearances for Basel since the club entered the UEFA Europa League in the round of 32, including the equaliser in the 2-1 victory at FC Salzburg that took his team through the round of 16.

Basel welcome Valencia on Thursday night before heading to Spain for the tie's conclusion on 10 April. The Swiss champions broke new ground by reaching last season's semi-finals, losing to eventual winners Chelsea FC.
