Enakarhire bolsters Sporting

Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Joseph Enakarhire on a four-year deal from R. Standard de Liège.

Undisclosed fee
The central defender, who was under contract at the Belgian club until 2006, joins for an undisclosed fee and is Sporting's fourth major signing after Brazilian midfielder Rogério, Cameroonian forward Rudolphe Mbela Douala and Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla.

Peseiro boost
Enakarhire's arrival comes as a boost to new coach José Peseiro as he looks to improve on last season's disappointing third-place finish and prepares for the start of Sporting's UEFA Cup campaign in the first round on 16 September.

Standard regular
The 21-year-old moved to Standard in 1999 and, after progressing through the youth ranks, was a first-team regular over the last three seasons, scoring once in 75 First Division matches. His development has earned him 13 caps for Nigeria. As well as playing in central defence, Enakarhire can also operate at right-back.
