sScotland and Hull City AFC winger Robert Snodgrass has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury.

Snodgrass – a €7.5m summer signing from Norwich City FC – dislocated a kneecap during the Tigers' 1-0 Premier League win at Queens Park Rangers FC on Saturday. "He'll be gone for six months which is a big blow to us," said manager Steve Bruce. "We spent a lot of money adding to our midfield area and now we've lost Snodgrass for the best part of the season."

The 26-year-old, who has scored three goals in 15 internationals, will certainly miss Scotland's first four UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying fixtures. Gordon Strachan's men begin their Group D campaign away to Germany on 7 September. European debutants Hull, meanwhile, are away to KSC Lokeren OV on Thursday in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off tie.

Strachan said: "We will miss him as a group for these qualifiers but we also know that he will be willing us on to do well. On behalf of my coaching staff and the squad, we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back among us when he has recovered."
