SSC Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne will undergo surgery after rupturing a cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Insigne, who has won six caps for Italy but is yet to be involved in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying, picked up the injury 25 minutes into Napoli's 1-0 victory against ACF Fiorentina on Sunday. He subsequently underwent medical examinations on Monday morning and will go under the knife later the same day. The exact length of the 23-year-old's absence is not yet known, though he is expected to be out of action for several months.

Insigne's injury represents a major blow for Partenopei coach Rafaél Benítez, with Napoli third in Serie A and well set to qualify from UEFA Europa League Group I, where they have collected nine points from four games.
