FC Zürich midfielder Gilles Yapi is unlikely to play again for some time after suffering a serious knee injury during a Swiss Super League game at the weekend.

FC Zürich midfielder Gilles Yapi is facing a long spell on the sidelines after sustaining a severe knee injury in a weekend league game.

The 32-year-old was carried off the pitch on a stretcher during Zürich's 1-0 victory against FC Aarau on Sunday and was taken straight to hospital. A scan revealed that the Ivory Coast international had sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage damage, as well as other injuries.

Zürich are third in UEFA Europa League Group A, three points behind Villarreal CF with two matches to go. Yapi had appeared in all four of their group stage games.
