ACF Fiorentina have parted company with coach Vincenzo Montella despite finishing fourth in Serie A and reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.

The two parties had different opinions regarding a clause in Montella's contract, which was due to expire in 2017. "With great regret we must take note that there is no longer the relationship of trust necessary for the continuation of any relationship," a club statement read. "We are therefore forced – for the good of the club – to sack Vincenzo Montella."

The 40-year-old former Italy striker took over at the Fiorentina helm in 2012 after starting his coaching career with AS Roma, the club he won the Scudetto with as a player in 2001, and Calcio Catania. Fiorentina reached the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa League semi-finals this season, losing on both occasions against the eventual champions: Juventus and Sevilla FC respectively.
