Classic Europa League and UEFA Cup comebacks

Salzburg's recovery from 5-2 down on aggregate against Lazio is the latest in a long list of exceptional comebacks in the competition.

Salzburg 4-1 Lazio, UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg, 12 April 2018
A sell-out crowd in Salzburg saw Ciro Immobile's eighth goal of the campaign earn a 5-2 aggregate lead for Lazio. Undaunted, however, the 1994 tournament runners-up immediately equalised on the night through Munas Dabbur and then conjured three goals in five crazy minutes courtesy of Amadou Haidara, Hee-Chan Hwang and Stefan Lainer. Next stop, the semi-finals.

Fiorentina 2-4 Borussia Mönchengladbach, round of 32 second leg, 23 February 2017
Mönchengladbach came back from 2-0 behind on the night and 3-0 down on aggregate to claim a remarkable win at Fiorentina. Captain Lars Stindl scored a 12-minute hat-trick before Andreas Christensen's fourth for the visitors sealed a 4-3 overall triumph, stunning fans at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-4 Zenit, group stage, 15 September 2016
Zenit went from 3-0 down to 4-3 up in the closing 14 minutes in Israel. Aleksandr Kokorin's 77th-minute finish gave them a chance and after Eli Dasa was sent off for the hosts, Maurício and Giuliano helped restore parity at 3-3. That was the prelude to Luka Djordjević's injury-time winner with a diving header.

Liverpool 4-3 Dortmund, quarter-final second leg, 14 April 2016
BVB enjoyed a blistering start at Anfield, following up a 1-1 first-leg draw with two goals inside nine minutes, and despite Divock Origi's reply, Marco Reus made it 3-1. Whatever the odds against them, Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho and Mamadou Sakho levelled matters to set up Dejan Lovren's stoppage-time clincher.

Odd 3-4 Dortmund, play-off first leg, 20 August 2015
With 22 minutes gone in Norway, Dortmund had conceded three times. However, two-goal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Henrikh Mkhitaryan turned things around, with Thomas Tuchel's charges promptly winning the second leg by a more convincing 7-2 margin.

Maribor 3-4 Club Brugge, group stage, 30 November 2011
Club Brugge's Lazarus act was to stir themselves from 3-0 down after 51 minutes in Slovenia. It took another 23 minutes before the visitors could summon their opening goal, but that was the cue for another three strikes, including a late clincher from Brugge's Ryan Donk.

After Basel established a 2-0 first-half cushion, Spartak's Dmitri Kombarov reduced the arrears on the hour and Artem Dzyuba soon equalised. Xherdan Shaqiri's red card then provided the incentive for Jano Ananidze to arrow in a last-ditch winner, which Spartak protected with a second-leg draw.

Dick Advocaat's first game as Rangers boss veered from disaster to delight against unfancied Irish opponents. His expensively assembed side trailed 3-0 in the second half, only to be rescued by two Jörg Albertz penalties, a Gabriel Amato double and Giovanni van Bronckhorst's effort.
