Lazio lose Peruzzi

S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi will miss the start of the group stage after exploratory surgery.

S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi will miss the start of the UEFA Cup group stage after undergoing surgery to remove cartilage in his right knee.

Sereni to step in
The 34-year-old had an exploratory operation and is expected to be sidelined for three or four weeks. Peruzzi will therefore sit out the opening Group E fixture against Villarreal CF at the Stadio Olimpico on 21 October. The former AS Roma, Juventus FC and FC Internazionale Milano player will be replaced by Matteo Sereni.

Three through
Lazio qualified for the group stage defeating FC Metalurh Donetsk 6-0 on aggregate in the first round. The Biancocelesti will also meet Middlesbrough FC, FK Partizan and Egaleo FC in the pool, with three teams progressing.
