Souness wary of complacency

Group D: Newcastle United FC and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard are facing difficult trips to Greece and Georgia.

Bellamy decision
Graeme Souness, the Newcastle manager, is determined last year's semi-finalists will not be complacent in Greece. "We don't want to make the mistake of thinking we are big favourites in the game and then come unstuck," he said. Souness will make a late decision over striker Craig Bellamy following a dispute between the pair, but Patrick Kluivert did not travel while Shola Ameobi has a hip problem. James Milner or Laurent Robert may be brought in to fill a more advanced role.

Forward boost
Panionios have selection worries of their own with goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobný likely to be absent for three weeks after arthroscopic surgery. Also, midfielder Nikolaos Mitrou has a leg injury and will not make the lineup but there was better news with attacking trio Lubomir Meszaros, Evagelos Mantzios and Juan Martín Parodi all given the green light to play. Coach Karol Pecze has warned his team to be "extra careful in defence", given the threat of Alan Shearer and Bellamy.

Kankava suspended
Against Dinamo, Sochaux coach Guy Lacombe is set to deploy Brazilian striker Ilan, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, as a lone striker, partly because of Jaouad Zairi's knee injury. Defenders Lionel Potillon and Sylvain Monsoreau have also struggled but should be fit. Meanwhile, Dinamo are shorn of suspended midfield starlet Jaba Kankava while goalkeeper Irakli Zoidze is also unlikely to play despite being available again after injury.
