Carew laid low at Besiktas

Besiktas JK's Norwegian international John Carew will be out for three weeks after injuring ankle ligaments.

Cost of defeat
The Norwegian international suffered the injury during Thursday's UEFA Cup Group B game at FC Steaua Bucuresti, which the Turkish side lost 2-1. Carew looks set to miss next Wednesday's home match against R. Standard de Liège and possibly even the trip to Parma FC on 16 December.

Turkish absences
In the meantime, the 25-year-old will sit out Turkish Superleague games against Samsunspor, Istanbulspor AS and Kayserispor. Besiktas's medical team hope to have Carew fit for their final league fixture before the winter break, against Akçaabat Sebatspor on 19 December.
