Fast-acting Feyenoord reward Saidi

Feyenoord have extended and improved the contract of central defender Karim Saidi, who joined in the summer.

Summer signing
Saidi joined Feyenoord last summer from Africaine de Tunis, signing an initial four-year contract. However, he immediately became a regular in Ruud Gullit's side, and impressed so much that he earned new and improved terms in record time.

'Faith in me'
The 21-year-old was caught unawares by Feyenoord's rapid action, saying: "It was a surprise for me as well. I am really very happy with this. It shows the club management has faith in me. I am very grateful."

Schalke test
Saidi is expected to miss this weekend's Eredivisie match at SC Heerenveen, but hopes to be fit for the UEFA Cup Group A encounter against FC Schalke 04 next Wednesday. The German side lead the standings with seven points, three more than second-placed Feyenoord who have played a game less. "I have a sore hamstring," said Saidi. "But I am eager to play against Schalke. I really hope I will make it."
