Toni Polster has left VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach to become general manager at FK Austria Wien.
'Happy for Toni'
The former Austrian international, who had previously been working in Mönchengladbach's marketing department, decided to leave Germany despite having a contract at the club until 2007. Mönchengladbach agreed to terminate his contract with general manager Stephan Schippers saying: "
We are happy for Toni because it is a huge opportunity for him. At the same time we are sad because we will lose a valuable colleague."
Polster told uefa.com: "Austria has always been close to my heart because I started my career there." He confirmed that he had signed a three-year contract with the UEFA Cup contenders, who take on Athletic Club Bilbao in their next European tie in February.
