FC Metalurh Donetsk have signed three Ukrainian players shortly before they make their debut in the UEFA Cup.
Strengthening the squad
Yuriy Virt, the 29-year-old goalkeeper, and Serhiy Atelkin, the 30-year-old forward, have both joined from FC Shakhtar Donetsk, and Serhiy Tkachenko, a 23-year-old midfield player, has signed from FC Arsenal Kyiv.
Third place finish
Donetsk were only founded in 1996, but two years later the team made their debut in the Ukrainian Premier League and last season finished third thus qualifying for the UEFA Cup. They will join this year's competition in the first round.
