Sevilla suffer setback

Defender Javi Navarro could miss Sevilla FC's UEFA Cup Round of 32 first-leg tie against Panathinaikos FC.

Nose reset
The 30-year-old suffered the injury during Sunday's 2-0 win at Albacete Balompié but was able to complete the match. He was later admitted to hospital to have his nose reset but tests conducted this morning have shown that the break is more serious than first thought. The player will have an operation this afternoon to fuse the bone together and will face up to a month on the sidelines.

Frustrating lay-off
The injury will almost certainly cause Navarro to sit out the first leg of the UEFA Cup tie against Panathinaikos. Joaquín Caparrós's side travel to Athens on 16 February before welcoming the Greek club to Spain eight days later.

Passport boost
Better news for Sevilla is that Brazilian midfielder Renato is no longer a non-European Union player after obtaining an Italian passport. The 25-year-old will be classed as European after qualifying for a new passport because of his Italian grandfather.

Correia presentation
"Renato has his passport in his pocket - an Italian passport, he is now an EU player," said club chairman José María Del Nido. The news was confirmed as Sevilla presented to the press their new Brazilian signing, Adriano Correia, who now takes the third place for non-EU players in the squad vacated by Renato.
