Argentinian defender Sebastián 'Gallego' Méndez has moved from Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield to RC Celta de Vigo. After a month of negotiations, UEFA Cup participants Celta concluded the deal which sees Méndez sign a five-year contract.

Purchase option
Méndez arrived at Celta on loan last December. At the end of the season, Celta tried to exercise a purchase option included in the contract, and have finally agreed on a €1.3m transfer fee with Argentinian club Vélez. If Celta sell Méndez in the next three years, Vélez will receive 40 per cent of any transfer fee.

'I am very happy'
"I am very happy, because this is what I wanted, after some difficult days," Méndez said. "I have always said that I want to play for Celta and I wish to begin pre-season [training] next Friday."
