Athletic Club Bilbao midfield player Edu Alonso has moved to Deportivo Alavés on a free transfer. The 28-year old Basque has signed a three-year contract with the UEFA Cup participants.
Press conference today
The deal was concluded between the player's agent, Mikel Eiguren, and Alavés president Gonzalo Antón on Friday. However, it was only announced yesterday given that some administrative details still needed to be cleared up. His new club officially presented the player at a press conference at the Estadio de Mendizorroza in Vitória today at 13.00CET hours.
Made in Bilbao
Alonso played in the Basque club's youth side from 1992-96. After one year at Eibar, he returned to Bilbao where he played one season in the first team before moving to UD Salamanca for two seasons. Back again at Bilbao in 1999, the club refused to extend his contract and in 2000 he moved to UD Las Palmas on loan.
Alonso is Alavés's third signing ahead of the new season after the purchases of Abelardo Fernández and Richard Dutruel from FC Barcelona.
