Parma FC winger Marco Marchionni will be sidelined for a month after undergoing exploratory surgery on his right knee.
Marchionni limped off after 57 minutes of Parma's 1-0 defeat at Atalanta BC on Sunday, a loss which left them three points above the Serie A relegation zone in 16th. The surgery was carried out last night and revealed cartilage damage.
The 24-year-old is definitely out of Parma's UEFA Cup Round of 16 return against Sevilla FC on Thursday. The first leg finished 0-0 in Spain last week. Should Parma progress, Marchionni would probably miss the quarter-finals, to be played over two legs on 7 and 14 April.
