Palop adds steel to Sevilla

Sevilla FC have swooped to sign goalkeeper Andrés Palop on a free transfer from Primera División rivals Valencia CF.

No fee
The 31-year-old, who has had a six-year association with Valencia, will move on a free transfer once his contract at the Mestalla expires on 30 June. He is the first signing to be confirmed by Sevilla since Juande Ramos was unveiled as the club's new coach on Monday.

Experienced trio
Palop will compete with the 29-year-old Andrés Esteban, who made 28 league starts last season, and 32-year-old Antonio Notario, who notched up ten games, for the No1 jersey at Sevilla. The Andalusian club finished sixth in the Primera División to earn a place in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup.
