Geromel gets Guimarães chance

Brazilian central defender Pedro Geromel has gone up in the world by joining Portuguese SuperLiga side Vitória SC.

Brazilian defender Pedro Geromel has signed for SuperLiga side Vitória SC.

Four-year contract
The 20-year-old has moved from GD Chaves, who have just been relegated from the second tier of Portuguese football. The centre-back, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, has penned a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. Guimarães will enter the UEFA Cup in September's first round.

Plenty of competition
Geromel arrived in Portugal from SE Palmeiras in 2003/04, and by January 2005 had risen to the Chaves first team. Guimarães coach Jaime Pacheco beat several other clubs to his signature and the player becomes one of five centre-halves at Pacheco's disposal, including fellow new boy Sereno, Attila Dragóner, Cléber and Medeiros.
