FC Metalurh Zaporizhya coach Oleh Taran was fired after Monday's defeat by FC Obolon Kyiv.

FC Metalurh Zaporizhya head coach Oleh Taran was fired after his side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat by FC Obolon Kyiv on Monday.

Lutkov takes over
Oleh Lutkov, 36, who has been the club's goalkeeping coach for the past four years, will take temporary charge of the first team until a successor is found. Ihor Nadein is tipped to return to the club he coached in the old Soviet league in 1988.

Leeds test
Metalurh, who will play Leeds United AFC in the UEFA Cup in two weeks' time, are second from bottom of Ukraine's Premier League. Club president Viktor Mezhejko would not comment on Taran's dismissal but the Ukrainian press cited poor results and a bad relationship between Taran and the club's foreign players as the reson behind the decision.
