Surgery required
The injury forced the 24-year-old Brazilian out of training and scans revealed that surgery was required. "It is another blow for us but I hope he will be able to return to training in about three weeks," said coach Giovanni Trapattoni.
Double blow
Cacau is the second Stuttgart forward to be sidelined after Swiss international Marco Streller suffered knee ligament damage in a 4-3 German Cup win at TSG Hoffenheim on 21 August, ruling him out for eight weeks. Trapattoni has moved to fill the gap with the signing of Danijel Ljuboja on a one-year loan from Paris Saint-Germain FC.
