The Portuguese international left-back has signed a three-year contract with the Merseyside club, who have lost both Gary Naysmith and Alessandro Pistone to injury.

Ambitious club
Nuno Valente, who has 18 national-team caps, was part of Porto's victorious UEFA Champions League side in 2003/04. "I am happy to be here and I am coming to a club with a lot of ambition," said the 30-year-old.
