Polish international Arkadiusz Bak will be out of action for six weeks due to appendicitis and therefore miss KP Polonia Warszawa's UEFA Cup first-round encounter with FC Porto.
"During the break for the national team's match Bak visited his family in Krakow," explained Marek Keska, Polonia's technical director. "He felt really ill and the doctor's diagnosis was an attack of appendicitis. On Monday evening he had surgery, which in the doctor's opinion went fine."
Polonia coach Janusz Bialek said. "We need him desperately, but it's just life. I'm truly sorry for the player who was in top form and had dreamt of returning to the national team."
Dropped by Poland
Bak, who was part of Poland's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, has scored four goals in five Ekstraklasa matches so far this season, with a further two in the UEFA Cup qualifying round. However he was not in Poland's squad for last weekend's EURO 2004™ qualifier against San Marino.
